Ecommerce SaaS: Configuring a Truly Powerful Backend Experience

For us laypeople, this means you can simplify how other staff members interact with your online store, no matter from where they access it.

Configuring your backend is an important part of making your software simple for the rest of your staff to use. Below you’ll find four steps to setting up your backend.

Step 1: Add administrators to your ecommerce software.
When you setup your shopping cart software, you have the ability to add other users to the backend. This is where you’ll set up your staff accounts, creating profiles and permissions.
Step 2: Set their levels of permission.
Next, ecommerce SaaS gives you, the owner of the software, the ability to set different permissions for each member of your staff. Each member of your staff will have a unique role on your team; defining that role by setting permissions ensures that your team members won’t accidentally cross over into territory they weren’t meant to control.

For example, you may have someone specifically tasked with managing products. They should have permission to edit product content on the website itself. They should also get access to the portions of the backend where you can control stock. In contrast, you may give a marketing person access to the website’s layout; copy on pages directly related to your store’s brand; and social media accounts associated with your store.

Step 3: Make sure they create strong passwords.
You’re giving your staff a lot of responsibility. It’s crucial that they make attempts to protect your SaaS ecommerce platform. That means creating strong, unique passwords that are different than the ones they use for personal accounts through other services.

Step 4: Educate your staff on the importance of discretion and security.
Software-as-a-service ecommerce can only be as successful as the staff using it. You have a responsibility to educate your staff on what constitutes appropriate behavior. For example, you may decide that staff members can only access your website through their personal devices. That means they can’t login through a shared or friend’s device.

Smart SaaS ecommerce means preparedness and education. Monitor the activity of your staff closely to make sure they’re exercising appropriate cloud behavior.
